2022-2023 Overview

California College of the Arts is committed to ensuring all students have the appropriate resources to uphold their physical health and wellness.

Per CCA policy, all students who are registered for courses at full-time status (12 or more units per term for undergraduate students; 9 or more units per term for graduate students) are automatically charged for and enrolled in the CCA student insurance plan unless they submit an approved insurance waiver that meets all of CCA's minimum requirements, by the established deadline​ - which is typically aligned with the end of the Add/Drop period.​

The CCA student insurance plan includes:

  1. One Medical Membership (healthcare provider)
  2. Health Insurance Coverage (through Aetna)
  3. Dental and Vision Insurance Coverage (through Anthem Student Advantage)

Coverage dates:

  • Fall: August 1 - December 31
  • Spring/Summer: January 1 - July 31
  • Summer (MFA in Comics students only): June 1 - July 31
  • Note: Special one month coverage options are also available for Pre-College students and MDes students in their final month in their program. Please contact healthinsurance@cca.edu for more information.

One Medical Membership

Students enrolled in the student health insurance plan are also eligible for a One Medical Membership that will expand their healthcare network even further. One Medical provides high-quality, patient-centered primary care services with same-day/next-day appointments and has office locations in the Bay Area and nationwide.

Health Insurance

CCA's student insurance's medical health coverage is provided through Aetna, giving students access to a network of doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and specialists throughout the Bay Area and nationwide.

All Aetna enrolled students must print out their Aetna Medical ID card each semester. Aetna ID cards will be available to print beginning August 1st for Fall, and January 1st for Spring.

Dental and Vision Insurance

Dental and vision coverage is provided through Anthem Student Advantage and is included as part of the CCA student health insurance plan. General Inquiries

Continued Insurance Coverage for Alumni and Graduating Students

Alumni and graduating students are not eligible to purchase additional coverage after their full time enrollment ends. For post-graduation insurance coverage options please see the information below.

Domestic Students

  • California Residents: Students planning to continue residing in California after graduation are encouraged to look into individual plans via Covered California. 
  • Non-California Residents: Please check the the insurance marketplace or programs similar to “Covered CA” in your state.


International Students

  • CCA alumni on post completion OPT are not eligible for health insurance through CCA and will need to obtain health insurance independently while they’re on OPT. The link below provides general resources for International Students that have recently graduated or will be graduating soon from CCA.

Property & Renters Insurance

CCA recognizes the importance of ensuring the safety of personal property. While CCA does not cover students' lost, stolen, or damaged property, we strongly urge all families to contact their insurance agents, check their homeowner's policies, and/or to consider purchasing renter's insurance.

CCA does not recommend or endorse any individual insurance company. However, please note that Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. provides information regarding personal property coverage.

Student Insurance U.S. Tax Return Documents: 1095-B Forms

Form 1095-B provides documentation about individuals who are covered by minimum essential insurance coverage, which is information required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if you are filing taxes in the U.S.

  • Students who were enrolled in the CCA Student Insurance Plan for 2022 should receive 1095-B U.S. tax forms directly from Aetna. They are mailed to the local mailing addresses on record with Aetna.
  • If you did no receive your Form 1095-B, please contact Aetna Student Support to request they reissue the form. They may be reached at 1-877-480-4161.
