Pass/No Credit Grading Policies for Spring 2020

Last updated on Apr 20, 2020

Pass / No Credit Policy

Because of the disruption to normal operations this semester caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the College is temporarily revising some elements of the grading policy for Spring 2020 courses. This policy revision is applicable to all Spring 2020 courses at CCA.

Beginning March 30, students in A-F graded courses will have the option of converting to a Pass/No Credit (P/NC) grading format for any course. Students may convert grading for as many or as few courses as they choose. Students will have until May 8 to request P/NC grading.

A grade of P receives the course’s designated units of course credit (e.g. 3 units). A grade of NC receives 0 units of course credit. P/NC grades are not factored into the GPA.

All course grades will be assigned according to the course’s default grading method (A-F or P/NC) unless a student requests a format conversion via Workday.

NOTE: Requests to the instructor are not sufficient nor official.

Special Instructions are available in Workday.

For all undergraduate courses converting to P/NC grading under the revised policy

  • a letter grade of A-D equates to a Pass
  • a letter grade of F equates to a No Credit

NOTE: Students not requesting P/NC grading for a course must achieve the existing minimum grade stipulated to fulfill the specific requirement (e.g. a C grade or better for major requirements and other select requirements).

Whom to Contact:

  • Students considering converting to the P/NC grade format are encouraged to consult with their instructor about the status of their course grade to determine whether this is an appropriate choice for them.
  • Students with additional questions about whether to convert to P/NC grading may also consult with their academic advisor.
  • Students on academic probation should carefully review Academic Standing with Spring 2020 Pass/No Credit and consult with their academic advisor before requesting to convert to P/NC grading.
