CCA TA Common Application

We are excited that you are interested in being a Teaching Assistant!

~ Position Description ~
Teaching Assistants play a vital role in the classroom community--offering mentorship, support, technical expertise, and conceptual engagement with students to reach their personal and educational goals. In addition, TAs learn from faculty how they design their course, and teach the curriculum–gaining insight into what it is like to be faculty, as well as growing their own teaching practice. TAs assist during and outside of class-time and may be involved with; working one-on-one with students, teaching lessons and/or leading demonstrations, critiques, or discussions, grading/reviewing assignments, preparing lectures or presentations, or completing special projects as needed.

Compensation: approximately $2,090 for the semester
Hours per week: 6

~ Expectations + Hours ~
Most TA's are expected to work an average of 6 hours per week (90 hours per semester). Faculty and TAs should set the schedule together, keeping in mind that some work may occur outside of the regularly scheduled course time slot.

Graduate teaching assistants should help with class preparation and be provided with opportunities to participate in the teaching experience. As employees of CCA, TAs may work with sensitive information and are expected to maintain confidentiality.

~ How to Apply ~
Applications are open in November and April for the subsequent semester.

Please have a copy of your current course registration on hand so you know which classes you can apply to TA. It is important that you are available ALL of the hours that the class meets and do not have a schedule conflict.

Faculty generally expect their TAs to support class preparations the week prior to classes beginning--you wouldn’t want to miss this anyway, as this is a critical time to give input and help shape the course with faculty.

There is also a mandatory new TA orientation during the week before the semester begins.
