Presented by Clarion Alley Mural Project in collaboration with CCA Center for the Arts and Public Life and Diaspora Arts Connection

(San Francisco, CA)

Resilience of Poppies

One day public event with new murals, live performances, poetry readings,

candlelight vigil, and speakers to show our solidarity with the brave women of

Iran and to honor those who have lost their lives in the fight for human rights.

This is a FREE event.

Date/Time: Saturday, April 15, 2023; 4 - 6 pm

Place: Clarion Alley Mural Project, Clarion Alley, (between 17th & 18th, and Mission &

Valencia Streets), San Francisco, CA

Resilience of Poppies is a gathering, vigil, and memorial in support of the Iranian

community and the global call demanding women’s/human rights in Iran, sparked by the

death of Mahsa Amini by the state of Iran on September 16, 2022. We will hold a

vigil/memorial for all the beautiful and fearless souls who have been killed in protests.

Through a combination of new murals, live dance, musical performances, and poetry,

this event tells the story of courageous survivors - men and women targeted by security

forces during protests, who were targeted to be shot directly in the eyes, resulting in the

blinding of many protesters. Resilience of Poppies is a narrative for those who have

overcome tragedy and adversity.

The event curated by Katayoun Bahrami and presented by Clarion Alley Mural Project

in collaboration with CCA Center for the Art and Public Life and Diaspora Arts

Connection.

Participants include:

Speakers: Megan Wilson and Katayoun Bahrami

This event is a continuation of “The Wind in My Hair” program curated by @katayounbahrami_ and presented by @clarionalleymuralproject in collaboration with @cca.caplconnects in San Francisco to show solidarity with the brave women in Iran.

The title of this event is borrowed from @masih.alinejad book, The Wind in My Hair.
“Woman. Life. Freedom.” “Zan. Zendegi. Azadi.” This is the slogan chanted on the streets of Iran since the Islamic Republic’s morality police killed #mahsaamini after she was arrested because of an improper hijab. Despite brutal crackdowns and the internet being shut down, protesters have not backed down. These protests are about more than mandatory hijabs — they are about the systemic oppression of women in Iran. For more than 100 days now, the brave protesters in Iran have been risking their lives for freedom. Now women, men, girls, boys, and people of all ages are standing shoulder-to-shoulder against the regime that has segregated and oppressed women in Iran for decades.
